Historical/biog note:
Alice Hudson (1922-1913) was an acclaimed artist of the world of the imagination and fantasy. Her work appeared at Gallery North in Long Island, Gallery 53 in Cooperstown, and the Chenango County Council of the Arts Gallery in Norwich. She also has works in the permanent collections of the Museum of the City of New York, and the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, as well as many pieces in private collections. The Mingei published a book describing the Museum's exhibit of her work: "A Palace for Wednesday."
Review:
These papers are organized into four series documenting chiefly the artistic endeavors of Alice Hudson. The first series documents the personal and artistic life of Alice Hudson. The second series contains family papers, primarily of her father, Harry Francis Hudson, and her uncle, Chauncey Hudson, who were prominent architects in Buffalo, N.Y. The third series documents the artist's work, with a number of files related to "A Palace for Wednesday," "Cultural Center with the Mysterious Locked Room," and "The Procession." The fourth series consists of oversize items. The papers include correspondence; biographical material; notes; published material; photographs and slides; a video recording; scrapbook pages; and photograph albums.
