Historical/biog note:
Frank Louis Norton (1846-1891), was born and educated in Connecticut. He pursued a career as a member of the clergy with the Episcopal Church. He was assistant Rector of St. John's Parish in Troy, New York, and later served as Dean of the Cathedral of All Saints, in Albany, New York. Norton also composed music and published multiple times. He married Jane Huntington Watkinson of Middletown, Connecticut. Watkinson family wealth and affluence, afforded the Norton's a very comfortable lifestyle. The Nortons built two homes: a primary residence at 6 Elk Street, Albany, New York, and a summer residence, Notleymere House, in Cazenovia, New York.
Review:
These papers include approximately 70 manuscript letters addressed to Frank and Jane Norton, primarily from friends and relatives. Although a few of the letters underscore church business and religious matters, the majority concern personal and family matters.
Abstract:
These papers also include a large number of invoices detailing a wide array of goods and services purchased by the Nortons, including groceries, clothing, shoes, books, stationery, office supplies, home furnishings, coal, and electricity. Many of the providers of these goods and services were situated in Troy, New York, coinciding with the time of Norton?s ministry as assistant rector of St. John?s Parish.
