Title:
Photographs, ca. 1930-1940.
Quantity:
10 boxes (4.0 cubic ft.)
Historical/biog note:
The Rome-Turney Radiator Company was founded in 1905 in Rome, New York by Joseph B. Long and George Turney under the name Long-Turney Radiator Company. The partnership dissolved in 1908, and Turney changed the name of the company to the Rome-Turney Radiator Company. During the early years of operation, it was primarily engaged in manufacturing radiators for automobiles. By the 1930s, automobile manufacturers were making their own radiators, so Rome-Turney shifted its production to making heat exchange units for private homes and commercial buildings.
Review:
The collection consists of photographs of radiator units and parts used for heat exchange units manufactured by the Rome-Turney Radiator Company. Most of the photographs are of interior spaces in private homes, businesses and other public spaces with the radiator units being the focal point of the image. There are also some photographs showing the exterior of buildings that were equipped with heat exchange units manufactured by the Rome-Turney Radiator Company. This collection of photographs were originally bound together in a series of seven albums that were probably on display at the New York World's Fair, 1939-1940.
