Historical/biog note:
Founder of the Roycroft Shops in East Aurora, New York, which were noted for bookbinding, printing, woodworking, and other crafts, Hubbard was also the editor of The Philistine and author of many books and pamphlets. Leadership of the Roycroft Fraternity passed to Elbert (Bert) Hubbard II (1882- ) when the elder Hubbard perished in the sinking of the Lusitania.
Review:
A collection of handwritten and typewritten letters signed mostly by Elbert Hubbard regarding literacy and editorial and publishing endeavors. Many of these letters were written on stationery featuring the Roycroft Shop letterhead. This collection also includes two letters of Elbert (Bert) Hubbard II and two letters from John Burroughs.
