Historical/biog note:
The Walbridge family was prominent in the business community of Buffalo, New York, for almost a century. George B. Walbridge (ca. 1814-1852) was engaged in the wholesale grocery business, and later, shipping on Lake Erie. His son, George C. Walbridge (1841-1913) was engaged in retail hardware business.
Review:
The Walbridge family papers consist chiefly of correspondence related to the personal and business careers of George B. Walbridge and his son, Charles E. Walbridge. The letters of George B. Walbridge were written mostly from November 1851 to August 1852, at which time he was living and working in either Savannah, Georgia, or Jacksonville, Florida. Most of the letters were to or from his immediate family and were personal in content. He also receive letters from business associates detailing his diversified business interests.
Review:
Letters written after 1852 were addressed chiefly to Charles E. Walbridge, and his wife, Annie F. Noble Walbridge. Included are a number of letters Charles sent to Annie when he was away on business, primarily in New York City, which generally detail person and family matters. Likewise, Charles received letters from his wife as well as his brother George, and sisters, Sarah and Louise, and other relatives and friends.
