Organized into seven series.
Historical/biog note:
Anglican services in Albany began in 1708 with the Reverend Thomas Ellison conducting services in the Fort at Albany. The first meeting house was erected about 1715, as well as being consecrated as the first Protestant Anglican church west of the Hudson and north of New York City. Later, it was granted an official charter of incorporation from the King of England in 1769, while James Ogivie was the rector. After the American Revolution the church was reorganized as St. Peter's Protestant Episcopal Church. A new building, designed by Philip Hooker, was erected at the corner of State and Lodge streets in 1803. This building was replaced in 1859 by a new structure designed by Richard Upjohn, and has since served as the meeting house for the congregation.
Review:
These records include register books containing records of baptisms, marriages, and deaths from 1756 to 1883. Also includes vestry minutes, 1802-1888, account books and other financial records, 1816-1915; legal and real estate documents, 1791-1895; and building records from 1803-1895, a wide array of photographs and printed materials documenting the history of the church. The earliest record is transcribed letters of Rev. Thomas Barclay from 1708 and the Church financial book from 1718, and the latest are printed programs from 1915.
