Historical/biog note:
Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood began in 1934 as a family planning clinic in the Mother's Health Center offices of Dr. Frances E. Vosburgh, and sponsored by the Albany Birth Control Committee. In 1938, the name was changed to the Albany Maternal Guidance Association and installed with a rotating board. The name of the organization was again changed in 1947 to Planned Parenthood Association of Albany. During the 1960s and 1970s the services were expanded to include single women and minors as well as opening branch clinics in outlying towns and counties. Reflecting its increasing service area which covered Albany, Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties, the organization assumed its current name.
Review:
This group of records documents primarily the administrative operations of the organization from 1962 to 1999. It includes minutes and agenda of board meetings, correspondence, financial statement, annual reports, and files of news clippings. The records concern programs and services of the organization such as family planning, birth control, abortion referrals, and women's health issues.
