Parker was an ethnologist, archaeologist and author. His particular area of interest was the Iroquois Indians of New York State.
Review:
A small collection of papers and material collected by Parker and the manuscripts of five books about the Iroquois by him. Included are letters to Parker from Iroquois and other Indian leaders; papers relating to William Beauchamp, Lewis Henry Morgan and Ely Parker; speeches by Arthur Parker regarding the Indians and other materials loosely organized by subject. Some of the subjects include Indian welfare, native welfare organizations, Cayuga Indians, Onondaga Indians, memorabilia and maps. These files contain news clippings, photographs, manuscript materials, pamphlets, reports written by Parker and others on various aspects of Indian culture and an assortment of other materials.
Review:
The book manuscripts form a series by Parker called "The Amazing Iroquois" which is described as being "an account of the internal history of the Six Nations of the Iroquois, their struggle for survival in competition with European powers, a summary of their wars or conquest, a digest of their laws, rites and ceremonies, their participation in continental conflicts, a description of their acculturation, their reservations and their adjustment to modern life, from 1535 to 1945."
